De Profundis Advisory was founded by Michael Campbell, an expert advisor to prisons. De Profundis Advisory develops practical solutions grounded in Michael's experience to tackle the prisoners’ anxiety, stress and frustration felt at all times during their period of incarceration. From the first days spent behind bars to the days spent preparing for release, De Profundis Advisory's work helps prisoners to cope with an alien environment, to reduce the staggering toll of self-harm, suicide and violence inside. His approaches have been adopted by every organisation managing prisons in the UK in both public and private sectors.
De Profundis Advisory campaigns for a zero target for self-harm in prisons and argues for an approach to criminal justice based on evidence over ideology. Therefore, a lot of its work surrounds the prevention of Self-harm and suicide in custodial settings.
De Profundis Advisory has been deemed to be a Subject Matter Expert in early days in a custodial setting and is often approached by those establishments wanting to improve this crucial time in a sentenced/remanded individual's journey.
Michael was also a guest speaker for the academic year 2020/2021 at De Montfort University in Leicester. He addressed those students taking the Penology module as part of their degree.
In June of 2022 our work was discussed in a House of Lords cross party debate on the Criminal justice System. We were recognised of having opened of 20 Early Days Centres in prison and training over 200 peer mentors in the estate.
